Early Intervention
The Autism Center of Nebraska offers an early intervention program that develops the skills of the child in the following areas:
- social interaction and play skills
- cognitive development
- self-help/tasks of everyday life
- communication
- sensory integration
- fine and gross motor skills
The program is individualized and tailored to meet the specific needs of each child and family.
Staff will work with families to ensure that learning is carried from the educational setting into the child's home environment.
The children participate in a combination of small group activities and one- on-one time with staff. The small groups join together for meal times and free play.
Features of the program include:
- Reduction of challenging behaviors, involving a process of assessment and positive behavioral support.
- Tasks promoting academic, self-help, and motor skills.
- Communication and language skills, including expressive, receptive, and pragmatic.
- Social interaction and appropriate play, joint attention, and relationship development
- Routine and predictability are ensured through the use of visual supports, structure, and consistency.
Eligibility
To be eligible for enrollment in the ACN's Early Intervention Program, a child must meet the following criteria:
- Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder or Pervasive Developmental Delay
- Aged between 2 to 9 years of age at intake.
